The SBWA will honor all of the award winners this weekend at its annual meeting. | | Wednesday, September 20th, 2023: Bunker Sensational, 5-5 It seemed that Houston first baseman Jim Bunker could do no wrong as the Colt .45s kayoed the Marlins 10-6 today as he rapped out 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Florida pitchers couldn't get him out as Bunker seemed to know which pitches they were throwing.
"I think the Colt .45s were stealing signs." growled one unhappy Florida fan.
"I just felt good today. I saw the ball well and just wanted to make good contact and put the ball in play." exclaimed the jubilant Bunker in the postgame press interview.
J. Bunker singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and flied out in the 9th.
During the current season Bunker is batting at a .347 clip with 31 home runs and 166 RBIs. He has played in 148 games and scored 107 times. | | Monday, September 18th, 2023: Big Bat Bags NL Best Player Award Florida's Carlos Castillo would not be denied the National League Player of the Week Award for this past week. His consistent stroke, which produced 11 hits in 26 at-bats and a .423 average, made him the clear favorite to win the honor.
"You just go out there and do what you have to do," said Castillo, "When I'm up, I try to focus and block everything else out of my mind...and have a good at-bat. I'm up there to get a hit or advance a runner, not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment. I hope I can win this award every week."
He also tallied 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 5 runs scored.
So far this year Castillo is hitting .359 with 14 home runs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | 2B Jerry Mudge | fractured skull | 4-5 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 101-61, .623 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 51-30, .630 PCT | | Record on the road | 50-31, .617 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 11-8, .579 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 26-14, .650 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-16, .529 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 83-45, .648 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 13-14, .481 PCT | | Record in May | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in June | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in July | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in August | 23-4, .852 PCT | | Record in September | 18-9, .667 PCT |
