| Breaking News |  | Thursday, September 7th, 2023: Bricio Ortiz Suffers Injury Watching Bricio Ortiz getting helped off the field today at Chicago East Park, fans of the Chicago Cubs feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the catcher will miss 2 weeks with a fractured hand. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Ortiz suffered the injury being hit by a pitch in the game against the Braves.
Ortiz currently has a .336 batting average with 195 hits, 3 homers, 69 RBIs, 82 runs scored and a .384 OBP. |  | Thursday, September 7th, 2023: Chicago's Díaz Injured It took the Chicago team doctor a while to realize it, but second baseman Alfredo Díaz won't simply play through a fractured finger after he got hurt colliding with a player at a base in today's Braves-Cubs game. At first, it looked like Díaz might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 1-2 weeks. A spokesman for the club described the loss of Díaz as a blow, but was confident that he'd be back soon.
Díaz is currently batting .264 with 12 home runs and 52 RBIs. |  | Monday, September 4th, 2023: Red-Hot Alvarez NL Player of the Week A hot-hitting week got Andres Alvarez the National League Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers.
The Chicago right fielder slammed them for a .750 average, 6 hits in 8 at-bats, 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and scored 5 runs.
